JCC/DART Overview:

Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) was formed shortly after Hurricane Sandy last October 2012. DART has been on the front lines of helping the victims of the hurricane put their lives back together. From organizing supplies, volunteers, and forms of aid, community participation is crucial to keep the help flowing to those in need.

DART will be sponsored by the Staten Island JCC and cooperate with other local organizations, relief and emergency agencies and local government when the need arises.

JCC/DART Mission Statement:

The Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) exists to provide support to the Staten Island community when disaster arises following a natural or manmade disaster.

JCC/DART Goals and Objectives:

  • The volunteers that will make DART a success will be recruited from all over Staten Island.
  • DART team volunteers will be trained to respond to all types of emergency situations, their training will include ARC, NYS EMT and other recognized emergency preparedness certifications.
  • To secure and store emergency supplies, with the help and participation of the community and generous donors and foundations.
  • DART core volunteers will meet at least once a month to review its inventory, training status of its members, and discuss any upcoming disaster events forecasted.
  • All DART volunteers will be issued an ID identifying them as members and once funding is in place PPE will be distributed to each member.
