Senior Adults


To be a Senior Adult at the JCC is to be someone who experiences many opportunities. Come celebrate holidays and special events, participate in recreational programs and social activities. You can also receive a Kosher meal. Homebound seniors also can receive a Kosher meal.

Aberlin/North Shore JCC

(Funded by NYC Dept. For The Aging & NYS Office On The Aging)
The L.A. Roth Senior Adult Center meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00am - 2:00pm at the Aberlin /North Shore JCC. Daily activities include bingo, art/painting and piano sing along. Also available are our popular athletic programs which include sitercise, tai chi, dance and movement. A nutritious Kosher lunch is served (a $1 contribution is suggested). For a detailed schedule, see our monthly calendar. Limited door-to door transportation is available within a specified area with advance registration for a suggested contribution of $1 round trip.

Avis/South Shore JCC

(Funded by NYC Dept. For The Aging & NYS Office For The Aging) The South Shore Center meets on Mondays through Fridays from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Avis/South Shore JCC.

Daily activities include music programs, art classes, arts & crafts, jewelry making, billiards, chess, choral group, nutrition forum, bingo, knitting, mah jongg, canasta, poetry, social action committee, group rap sessions, computer classes, guest lectures and trips. Shabbat program and weekly parsha discussion. Also available are our popular athletic programs which include aerobics, pilates, sitercise, yoga, tai chi, step classes and pace & stretch. A nutritious Kosher lunch is served (a $1 contribution is suggested). For a detailed schedule, see our monthly calendar. Limited door-to-door  transportation is available within a specified area with advance registration for a suggested contribution of $1 round trip.

Bernikow/Mid-Island JCC

Programs scheduled at the Bernikow JCC will be held at the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation Active Adult Center.

Socials/Special Events

Several times a year there are special events and holiday programs. They include a New Year’s Bash, Purim Party, Passover Model Seder, Israeli Independence Day Celebration, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Party, Thanksgiving Day Party and Chanukah Celebration. Entertainment is provided. All parties and/or celebrations are held at the Avis/South Shore JCC. Transportation is provided.

Trips

Our extensive year round trip programs include museums, theatres and other landmarks within the NY Metropolitan area. Theatres included in our trips are the Papermill Playhouse, Count Basie Theatre, Bucks County Playhouse and the Folksbienne Yiddish Theatre. Prices vary. JCC members are given priority registration and reduced rates on all trips.

Specialized Senior Adult Program

High functioning developmentally delayed and/or physically challenged senior adults aged 50 and above can attend our mainstream program at the Avis/South Shore JCC. The program is available Mondays through Friday from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Programs for frail and cognitively challenged seniors are also available at the Avis/South Shore JCC. Round trip transportation is available as is a nutritious Kosher lunch. Contact Jodie Kornblum for information.

Kosher Meals to the Homebound

Kosher meals are delivered seven days a week to homebound elderly recipients. They also receive special holiday packages and regular telephone reassurance calls.

Resettlement Services

These include ESL (English as a Second Language), one-on-one conversational practice, citizenship classes, and social service referrals.
